England legend Stuart Pearce has backed Gareth Southgate’s decision to play an unchanged team against Denmark tonight. The Three Lions beat Serbia 1-0 in their Euro 2024 opener on Sunday but struggled to kill the game off in the second half. There have been calls for the likes of Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon to start tonight but Southgate is set to field the same eleven that began in Gelsenkirchen.talkSPORT’s Pearce was critical of Phil Foden during the Serbia win but believes the Man City ace should start again this evening. He said: “I would’ve kept the same team and I thought that after the game the other night.“I was vocal about making changes in the first-half, because I didn’t think things were going in the right direction.“When we had the ascendency in the game, we didn't press that home enough. I saw that it would swing in Serbia’s favour and it did from 35 minutes onwards.“They wrestled the momentum away from us and we couldn’t get it back. But speaking after the game, I said I think Foden has earned the right to have a couple of starts at least.“But I think the way the modern game has changed and evolved, you have to make substitutions very early, and I’m talking about the first-half. That will be the natural evolution of football.“I saw the sensibility in starting the team again. But it might be about thinking on your feet quickly and making those changes nice and early.”Alexander-Arnold and Foden to START for England against Denmark as Southgate keeps faithCredit: Getty 30 MINUTES AGO By Marc Williams ‘The criticism is so weird’ Manchester United great Peter Schmeichel has hits out at the 'weird' criticism of Denmark ahead of their showdown with England today. The Danes drew 1-1 with Slovenia in their Euro 2024 opener on Sunday but drew scrutiny for their display having gone ahead early thanks to Christian Eriksen.Schmeichel told talkSPORT: “Sometimes, I think our media and people forget who we are and how small we are and how fantastic it is we keep producing these results.“The expectations just grow and grow. When we came off that 1-1 draw with Slovenia, which I think was a fair result, the criticism is so weird. The aftermath of that was Denmark did not play well, without even thinking that Slovenia is a good team themselves.“If you are by far the best team then you can expect to dominate and create chances, but that is certainly not the reality in these Euros.“Even France were struggling, the only big team not to struggle is Germany. They’ve been doing exactly what the people weren’t expecting them to do. Every other team in the Euros has a chance.”When asked if it would be a shock if Denmark beat England this evening, Schmeichel said: “That’s a big word, because it suggests that Denmark is not a very good team. I don’t think it will be a shock, it would be a big result.“Even back when I played, if you play England it doesn’t get much higher. Same with Germany, these are the games you dream about. That has not changed.“We’ve got a little bit of history with England over the last few years, we were in the semi-finals three years ago. It was so tight and such a small difference between the teams.“No matter what happens today, there’s still a chance of either team going through. Both teams are of that standard we need them in the knockout stages."TODAY, 10:11 By Marc Williams Serbia threaten to QUIT Euro 2024 Serbia say they are prepared to pull out of Euro 2024 after accusing Croatia and Albania fans of singing offensive chants at the tournament.Serbia, who lost to England in their Group C opener on Sunday, claim rival supporters in the Hamburg game last night chanted ‘kill, kill, kill the Serb’.The General Secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, Jovan Surbatovic, has now submitted a complaint to UEFA and requested that the two fellow Balkan nations are punished.Surbatovic has said his country would quit the tournament should UEFA fail to act.He said, via RTS: "First of all, I want to thank our fans for their support in the match against England and I hope we will beat Slovenia."What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition."We are sure that they will be punished, because they have already responded to our appeal to remove the so-called journalist from Albania from the championship."We will demand from UEFA to punish the federations of both selections. We do not want to participate in that, but if UEFA does not punish them, we will think how will we proceed."We were punished for isolated cases and our fans behaved much better than the others. One fan was punished for racist insults and we don't want it to be attributed to others."We Serbs are gentlemen and we have an open heart, so I appeal to the fans to remain gentlemen."Serbia are due to face Slovenia in Munich today with the Group C tie kicking off at 2pm.
